Rating: - Worst Rigid Planer, motor is totally unreliable. Burnt out after min use!
First I'm a hobbist woodworker and only planed some 1" x 4" mahagony and pine. Maybe 100' before having problems.
I have the two blade version and was very disappointed after using it a couple of times the motor began to run badly. Made sure all saw dust was cleaned away, etc.
The third time it completely burned the motor. Tried replacing the brushes and blowing compressed air through it. No luck.
Called Rigid and they refused to honor any warranty work because I didn't register ... Read More
Rating: - Good planer with design faults
Okay, if you don't intend to change the blades, or do everything just right. I wanted to remove the blade at one point and the tool/screw stripped immediately. Seems like this design fault has been fixed, but my machine's screws are still stripped.
Also there needs to be labeling regarding the absolute need to operate with a hood on, otherwise you'll burn out the motor.
My feeder stopped working, so I'm not the happiest. You know, money adds up. Maybe should've gone with ... Read More

I bought Ridgid's newest model thickness planer after I had beat the older model to death with daily use for over a decade. The brushes on the motor finally gave on the old one so I got the new one with plans to have the old one refurbished when I have time.
This newest model has plenty of power for me. I make historic window replicas and use this machine almost daily. I bought both machines, my old one and this new one at Home Depot so I wouldn't ever be without replacement blades, ... Read More
Rating: - The Home Depot is going to provide NO SUPPORT.
Think Ridgid is The Home Depot brand? If you do you are wrong. They lease the name. About 4 manufacturers have sequentially used it. Depending on which built the machine you own they will gladly service the machine under the "lifetime warranty" or you'll have to argue with them. If you call The Home Depot for help they will tell you "We do not warranty products. We are a retailer." or some such nonsense. After getting nowhere with The Home Depot I do all my shopping at Lowes. The planer at Lowes ... Read More

I kept watching the price of this item on Amazon, it kept dropping from #399.00 to $361.00 in several days. I was about to purchase this item when I saw the price had risen to $550.00 over night. The price increase was mind blowing. I got on the Home Depot web site and the price was $369.00 at my local store. Went there with the Home Depot ad and saw the price was $399.00 at the store. Notified the store manager, showed her the ad and I got the planer for $369.00 - 10% because of the ad. I couldn't be happier, ... Read More
