Makita's LXT218 includes a 1/2-inch hammer driver-drill with high torque and high speed (BHP454Z). The BHP454Z features a Makita-built four-pole maximum torque motor that delivers 560 in.lbs. of Max Torque and 360 in.lbs. of PTI Torque in a compact size. The BHP454Z has a Shift-Lock drive system sleeve that quickly shifts from "hammer drill" to "driver" mode. The two-speed all-metal transmission delivers 0-400 RPM in low speed and 0-1,700 RPM in high, covering a wide range of drilling and driving applications. The BHP454Z has 0-6,000 Blows Per Minute (BPM) in low speed and 0-22,500 BPM in high speed for hammer drilling into masonry and concrete.
The LXT218 also includes the Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Driver (BTD141Z). The BTD141Z features a Makita-built four-pole maximum torque motor that delivers 1,330 in.lbs. of torque, 2,300 RPM, and 3,200 impacts per minute for a wide range of fastening tasks. Makita's proprietary hammer and anvil impact mechanism is manufactured using the best raw materials with the highest quality steel and unique heat hardening process for maximum fastening and driving power.

The drill has more torque than I can control. This is a good thing. Hammer drilling is easy as well.
The impact driver is a gift from the gods and puts screws into any lumber so fast that I found it a bad idea to handle them when I impact drove them back out again. They are quite hot! ( I was testing as to how many you can drive in and out on a single battery charge. I got tired of doing so before the battery.)

Love the drills, they carry plenty of pack. I have long been a makita fan simply because of their durable motors. These do not let down and take the batteries up a notch with the Lithium Ion batteries. I especially love the less than thirty minute charge time (typically closer to twenty minutes for me) and the fan cooling system on the charger. This is the second time I have ordered Makita Cordless drills from Amazon and I love them. I would recommend these Makita drills to anybody.

This driver drill combo has served me well. A few small downsides. First I have found the drill lacks some power when boring larger holes. During my last attempt at large hole drilling I actually smelt some burning odors from the drill. I don't normally use my cordless for hole sawing but sometimes it's a matter of convenience and speed, use what's in hand. The driver is a beast. I've had no problems and it has been a great tool. This is only the third battery operated drill I have owned. The one before this one was a 14 volt makita that I really liked, but the batteries would no longer hold a charge. This set is a giant leap forward in performance and weight reduction. With the Li-ion batteries I would think corded tools are on there way out, yes the Li-ion tools are that good!
